Ayé
This body of work is inspired by Yoruba masquerades and the mystical powers of the Ẹlẹyẹ, the revered Àwọn Ìyàmí.
Ayé is conceived as a spiritual battleground, where forces of good and evil are in constant contention. It is inhabited not only by humans but also by ancestors, spirits, and, at times, malevolent entities.
In Yoruba cosmology, Ayé is more than a physical world. it is a complex, dynamic space where the spiritual and moral dimensions of existence intersect. It is where human destinies unfold in relation to both visible and invisible forces.
Understanding Ayé as a realm shaped by unseen spiritual influences offers deep insight into Yoruba religious beliefs and practices.
